Keep your dog in top condition with the professional dog wash and grooming service at Sharna’s Dog Care in Christchurch
Grooming is an essential part of caring for your dog and should be done regularly by a professional.
At Sharna’s Dog Care, we work closely with owners to ensure we know what their dog’s needs are and what sort of handling they will tolerate. We work hard to gain your dog’s trust so that grooming becomes a pleasurable activity for them rather than something scary. Our facilities are open plan and you are welcome to stay and watch your dog being bathed, dried and having their hair cut.
We’ll also give you advice on how best to care for your dog’s coat between grooms. For example, if you want to cut your dog’s coat shorter so it can go longer between trims, we might recommend getting a dog jacket for cooler days.
Plus all dogs who come to us for grooming go into the draw for Sharna’s Dog of the Month and win a free bath in our dog grooming parlour. All our dogs also receive a free natural treat on departure which our furry friends just love.
Book an appointment for dog care services today – you can book grooming or a daycare spot or book both on the same day.
Four benefits of regular dog grooming
One of the happy dogs at Sharna’s Dog Care
Your dog looks better and feels better. A well-groomed dog is a happy dog. Regular grooming removes excess hair, deals with potential matting and improves the condition of your dog’s skin. Plus your dog will look great and smell great thanks to our products.
A well-groomed coat will shed less. A dog that is regularly groomed and whose hair is kept at a reasonable length is less likely to shed. This means less pet hair around your home and is great for people with allergies.
Grooming can detect other issues before they become bigger issues. During grooming, we will handle your dog carefully. This means we get to know how your dog feels and acts and can help to detect any potential issues with skin, ears, eyes or teeth. Grooming also removes potential problems such as grass seeds or dirt that could cause infections.
Grooming gets your pet used to being handled. Being handled by an experienced dog handler like a groomer can help to get your pet used to being handled by people and make them easier to handle at home.
Everything you need to know about our dog grooming services
What’s included in the dog wash and grooming session?
During the grooming session your dog will be given a bath and then clipped to an appropriate length. We also offer nail trims and ear cleaning to keep your dog in great shape.
How often should my dog be groomed?
That depends on the breed and the type of hair they have and what style you are looking for. Some breeds need more regular care to prevent issues. We can cut hair shorter on request so you can wait longer until the next groom and we provide free face trims in between appointments.
Do you do grooming for large dogs?
Yes. Sharna’s Dog Care has lots of experience with handling large dogs as the owner Keryn has large breeds herself. We groom small and medium-size dogs too!
Do you puppy grooming?
Yes. In fact the earlier you get your dog started with grooming the better. This helps them get used to grooming from a young age and makes it easier going forward.
My dog is nervous – can you groom them?
Yes, we have lots of experience with all kinds of dogs including nervous ones – our groomer has been working with us for more than a decade. Dogs being groomed at Sharna’s Dog Care also have the opportunity to access our doggy daycare which can help calm them and associated the groom with something fun.
Can I watch my dog being groomed?
Yes. We believe in being open and so we’ll never hide your dog away from you. That’s just one of the reasons why our clients think we’re one of the best dog groomers in Christchurch.
Are the dogs kept in cages?
No, all our dogs are free to access and roam the daycare facility. The only time we keep dogs separate is after their bath so they don’t get dirty again.
Can I book my dog for daycare and grooming?
Yes. Many clients book their dog in for daycare in the morning and then grooming in the afternoon before they pick them up. We’re happy to talk to you about this option.
